Virtual Ethnography

The Training Program for facilitators and the interviews carried out on site brought to light the historic relationship between the Ránquil river basin populations (the main SIMOL actor) and the Itata River as a major water body.

A relevant part of the relationship between territorial hydrology, local history and socio-environmental dynamics occurs in water bodies. These are part of the concept of “life and traditions”.

The Itata River has not only defined its administrative boundaries, but has also shaped demographics and location, productive and recreational activities, and overall, local perceptions regarding water.

Virtual Ethnography is a SIMOL project aimed at the rescue of local experiences with the Itata River in a broad-based, participatory and open fashion.

Its implementation during Phase 2 has the potential to diversify the reconstruction of historic perceptions of water.
